WHY WAS FIBERCEL RECALLED?
Aziyo voluntarily recalls the FiberCel product, issued through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), referring to a post-surgical infection in seven of the 23 patients that have received FiberCel, four of which have tested positive for Tuberculosis. Aziyo claims that a specific lot of FiberCel consistent of 154 units all derived from a single donor is the source.
WHAT IS TUBERCULOSIS, AND WHAT ARE ITS RISKS?
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually attacks the lungs, but TB bacteria can also attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain.
You are more likely to get TB if you have a weak immune system – like after surgery. Symptoms of TB in the lungs may include a bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer, weight loss, weakness or fatigue, fever, and night sweats.
Skin tests, blood tests, x-rays, and other tests can tell if you have TB. If not treated properly, TB can be deadly.
WHO CAN FILE A FIBERCEL LAWSUIT?
Anyone who has had surgery that used FiberCel and has had a post-surgery infection and tested positive for TB can file as part of the FiberCel lawsuit.
WHAT COMPENSATION IS AVAILABLE FROM A FIBERCEL LAWSUIT?
Both economic damages (such as medical bills, lost wages, and other financial losses), as well as non-economic damages (for conditions like physical and mental pain and suffering), could be available to FiberCel plaintiffs. The actual compensation a plaintiff is eligible to receive depends on the facts surrounding their individuall case.
WHY DO I NEED A LAWYER?
Pharmaceutical companies are among the wealthiest and most powerful organizations in the world. Taking on a drug manufacturer without legal representation is an extremely difficult path. To have the best chance at being fairly compensated, you should work with an experienced law firm that has the knowledge and resources needed to stand up to Big Pharma.
